What are some good piano songs?

OR a good place to find piano chords...progressions.

Do you mean Classical or Contemporary? Assuming you mean the latter, here's a list of fun songs to play. If you know how to play chords on the piano, it's fairly simple to use guitar chords to learn the song on the piano. Acoustic versions of songs feature the chord structures of a song, so you can learn the basic structure and start playing leads and special piano parts when you feel more comfortable.

Fun Songs:

Imagine - John Lennon
Bridge over Troubled Water - Simon and Garfunkel
Let it Be - The Beatles
Brick - Ben Folds Five
Karma Police - Radiohead
Someone Like You - Adele
Surfs Up - The Beach Boys
Rose for Emily - The Zombies
Angel - Sarah Mclaughlin
Don't Stop Believing - Journey
The Scientist - Coldplay
How to Save a Life - The Fray

Another fun thing to do (that I prefer to do), is take an acoustic song or even just a plain song, finding the chord structure, and turning it into a piano song. You can come up with some cool leads and it's a completely new song.

And ANY music works, a great example of this is Ben Folds' cover of "B*tches Ain't Sh*t" by Dr. Dre. :)

How many piano chords do professional pianists know? How many chords are taught?

Can you please provide a list?
I know there are many many chords but how many do professional pianists know or learn throughout life.
If you're a professional pianist or advanced pianist, how many do you know?

Thx
thank you ...
I forgot to mention that my question is mainly for classical pianists or people who know what chords classical pianists are taught.
I have a list I found online but it's most probably incomplete.
I thought classical pianists practised arpeggios, scales and chords, am I wrong?
And octaves.
Thx jones, I know that. But all I'm asking is how many do they need to learn?

What you are asking is a music theory question, really. If you are a jazz or popular music player, you learn to read from chord symbols as well as notation - and there is an almost limitless amount of chords, just suing major and minor tonalities; add modes, and this increases geometrically. If you are talking about classical technique, and want to know how many scales and arpeggios classical players practice, including the various forms of minor sclaes, then pianists would know 60 scales and arpeggios - and then they would also practice them in parallel thirds and sixths, for example, and arpeggios in inversions - you can never be too well-prepared!

A basic theory class will teach you how to build and then identify all the chords that can be generated over any scale degree; you start with the ones that use only the notes of the scale, and then move into the ones that use altered notes, as part of a harmonic progression; if you are in c minor, and play a C major chord but add a Bb, you are no longer playing the i chord - you are playing V/iv. This is valuable to know for ALL musicians, not just pop players, and not just pianists!

I am not certain that you have stated exactly what you want - and you need to tell us your viewpoint - classical technique, or pop/jazz playing. Many of us do both - the other system just clicks in, as easily as changing from printing to writing in cursive.

Added - get yourself a volume of Hanon. Learn all the scales and arpeggios in it, in every key. Then come on back - and we will talk again.

Jazz 2-5-1 Chord Progressions?

I need to transcribe a jazz solo for trombone but the solo needs to be based on a 2-5-1 chord progression. Can someone help me by giving me a list of charts based on this chord progression with a soloist. The soloist can be on any instrument (except the rhythm section like drums, piano or bass) but it would be better if the solo was on trombone. Thanks!
